Girne American University (Turkish: Girne Amerikan Üniversitesi) is a university in Kyrenia, a city-limits in the arctic breadth of Cyprus. The university was founded in 1985 by Mr. Serhat Akpinar as an independent, non-profit academy of American-style college education. Today, GAU is an all-embracing university with campuses in Cyprus, Istanbul, Washington D.C. (U.S.), Hong Kong and Canterbury (U.K.).[citation needed]
